What makes a building green
USE OF NATURAL GREEN BUILDING PRODUCTS ALONG WITH STATE OF THE ART INTELLIGENT GREEN TECHNOLOGY WORKING TOGETHER TO KEEP YOUR HOUSE HEALTHY AND ULTRA MODERN.
Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle from foundation to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. Green building is also known as a sustainable or high performance building.
Careful planning goes into a green construction. Materials used for building are mostly salvaged or recycled byproducts from other industries. Use of toxic chemicals and materials are reduced. A Green Home is designed to make the best use of natural light.
New Zealand Energy Forum (NZEF) after several years of research and international know how has laid down criteria for building of Green Homes. According to the NZEF, Green Homes are energy and water efficient and make use of environmentally preferable building materials, waste reduction, toxics reduction, indoor air quality, smart growth and sustainable development.
Unlike a traditional home where each component is decided on separately, a green building project considers a home as one system where all the processes such as heating, cooling, plumbing, energy and water use are interconnected. Doors, windows, roofs, floors and walls of a green home all contribute to make it energy efficient and sustainable.
We are one of the few Green Building companies who have developed an International standard Green building procurement policy. For most of the products we do a complete Life cycle analysis to determine what is the carbon foot print of the product. Our products are sourced from NZ and many state of the art building products which are not available in New Zealand are sourced from German technology companies – German companies are world champions when it comes to green technology and energy efficiency.
We follow a strict international standard Green building materials PROCUREMENT policy.
For each of the criteria mentioned above, the New Zealand Energy Forum has laid down standards and specifications that builders of Green Homes must adhere to.
